Who's Behind Slash7?

I am!

My name is Amy Hoy. I'm an informally educated designer-turned-interface-developer who also programs (and writes, and speaks, and takes pretty pictures).

I have a personal web site, a company, a business partner, a Flickr photo stream, and an apartment in southern Maryland.

I also bookmark things.

Consulting?

Do I do consulting? Boy, do I! That's what my company, Hyphenated People, is all about. My partner John and I focus on product design, usability, user interaction and graphic (web, identity) design, but we can help you out with Ruby and JavaScript projects as well—either directly, or on a referral basis.

If this sounds at all up your alley, email away. And don't wait too long, because we book up pretty fast... and I'd love to talk with you about your project.

Engage me to speak!

I speak at conferences, I've done training, am training, will do training. Now that we've got all the verb tenses covered, I can speak or train for you—about UI, product design, design in general, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, or life, in general. Drop me a line.

Past speaking gigs have included:

  • RailsConf (06 & 07)
  • OSCON (06 & 07—including a 3-hour tutorial)
  • Workshop for Good (2-day training course for charity)
  • Philly Emerging Tech
  • FOSCON
  • Canada on Rails
  • web|works

See the sidebar for links to my slide stacks.

Future gigs include:

  • Webstock 2008 (full-day tutorial and regular session)

Talk to me

I love hearing from my readers (that'd be you!). You can email me, chat me up on the Freenode IRC network (I'm eriberri), or leave me a comment.
